Tracheostomy workshop
課程介紹
Tracheostomy
management is an area of advanced clinical practice. Hence clinical training in
this field takes place in the workplace as part of postgraduate advance skills
training. Unfortunately, recent research conducted in Australia (Ward et al.,
2008) and the UK (Ward et al., in press) has highlighted deficits in training
opportunities available for clinicians to develop skills in tracheostomy
management; leading to reported issues with clinical confidence and skills. It
is therefore important that more training opportunities are available to help
rectify this situation.
The initial steps toward achieving clinical competency in tracheostomy
management involve the development of basic content knowledge and basic
clinical skills training. This current 2 day course targets this initial stage
of clinical competency development for tracheostomy management. The learning
outcomes of the workshop are to assist attendees to:
v Recognise
the importance of competency training and ongoing skills development
v Understand
the critically ill and intubated patient and the factors influencing management
v Become
aware of the equipment involved in tracheostomy management
v Understand
the current evidence base for speech pathology practice in tracheostomy
management (speech and swallowing rehabilitation, and decannulation role)
v Recognise
the importance of team management for outcomes and team roles
v Gain
an awareness of different practice patterns and scope of practice both within
and across services and countries
v Have
an awareness of new initiatives for tracheostomy clinical training and clinical
mentoring models
v Participate
in case based practice with basic tracheostomy management skills and clinical
decision making
